Wot, no mention of the tough reception the ministers received? THAT is the newsworthy point, not the crowded town hall! Terry Le M said it was the worst in 30 years, so it must be truly something worth mentioning to your dear listeners. Or don't they want to know?

crappogre - according to my editor it was felt that we couldn't report on the tough reception as we weren't there to comment directly and without breaking our election guidelines (that mean we can't mention specific candidates).
I'm going to be writing up some of the comments from the phone in today in my blog post so will be mentioning the tough reception.

thanks Ryan You've got some crazy rules to put up with! So you can't report on anything unless someone's there? How do you report plane crashes and things like that? No reporter was there at the time!

crappogre - we did report on it - I posted the report above - but there were limits on what we could report. I suggested a solution might be to get the Constable of St Helier on Jersey at Four with Chris Stone to talk about it - not sure what will happen with that.
another blog - the BBC Jersey site gets an average of 120 thousand page impressions a week (30 thousand unique users) so it WILL be seen by a fair number of people.
And as I mentioned above I did suggest an idea for covering it in more detail.
Also it was heavily covered in one of our most popular shows - the Phone-In with a number of people talking about what happened (pro and anti) so it hasn't been 'ignored' by the BBC.

another blog - it's not my place to agree or disagree I'm but a humble journalist and can only really speak for the BBC online coverage as I run bbc.co.uk/jersey.
If it wasn't for the fact that I have three children I've barely seen in three weeks I would have been at the St Helier hustings myself last night.
BTW - this is the e-mail sent to Philip Ozouf, Paul Routier, Alan J. Maclean, Frank Walker, Terry Le Sueur and the local media this afternoon.

Sorry - meant to include that bit - it's from Terry Le Main.
Eastrock - the link will work fine on our live election pages - I've tested it on several browsers.

It was read out on the Phone-In and I think also the breakfast show - with the candidate names removed.
I've also included large chuncks of it in my hustings report.

Because if we left the names in we would have to invite those candidates on air to respond which would give them added prominence which, under our guidelines, would mean inviting every other candidate to come on - by which time the show would be over.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed Ian Le Marquand say he backed GST - I was wondering if I had imagined it as last night he stated quite clearly that he was against it.
He told me he would vote for T Le Sueur as the next CM if he got in and then when a direct question was asked at one of teh following hustings re whether the candidates would vote for T Le S as CM he was totally ambiguous "I will vote for the best person for the job". He's talking like a politician already.
Seeing as T Le Sueur has him shortlisted as the next Home Affairs Minister and he is often to be seen chatting to Mr Ozouf and Mr McLean after the hustings, I leave you to draw your own conclusions.
He already sees himself elected and in with Ozouf and T Le Sueur. Nobody that wants to see reform in the States should vote for this person - he is simply a replacement Wendy Kinnard.
It's not as though anyone can complain that they don't have enough choice!

Yet another of the 'old boys' club. Bad news for everyone. His performance so far has been quite frankly appalling. This guy is trying to hoodwink us all. DO NOT VOTE FOR IAN LE MARQUAND. It would be a huge mistake. "What I can't believe is that Le Main c/c'd the media" I agree with you. Has this been confirmed? Have you asked Le Main if it was from him Ryan? Did Le Main sit through the whole hustings? I don't remember seeing him. Anyone see him from start to finish?

How dare this bully boy denigrate the good ordinary people of Jersey as "Mad".
They are angry at the mess some of senior Ministers have got us into.Arethe good people of Jersey who dare to voice their feelings be expected to be treated in such a fashion?
Since when has he been qualified as an expert on mental health,to allow him to comment on the mental well being of people he does not even know?
I thought his expertise was in the second hand car market, perhaps that is where he honed his techniques.?
This is another fine example of the "Jersey Way " in action. Bullying and intimidation seems rampant throughout our society . Shameful that those who should set a better example by showing leadership do not appear to be able to do show. His attack at his colleague Mr Vibert, also shows how low some people will go to castigate others who are in difficulties Are they planning at using him as the fall guy ? Perhaps,he has another agenda, and hopes that in the reshuffle which is being planned that he might be deemed responsible to become our next "educashion Minnister".? God Forbid.,that should ever happen.
To all that think and resort to bullying ,may I suggest an anger management course is needed,to deal with the underlying reasons for their insecurities. To denigrate citizens of Jersey in this way,is disgraceful, and believe he should apologise to the many people he has offended with his crass comments.
Good "Nite" ,and good riddance to any bully boys out there.

OK thanks Ryan that will do me as I have now logged this thread.
Le Main - YOU TOTAL DORK!!!! What on earth were you thinking? Silly me. I forgot you need A BRAIN to think.
The people are fed up to the back teeth of being treated like idiots. Kept in the dark, not being privileged to the 'whole picture' or being informed as to the general direction of where the States are taking the Island as a whole. What is the vision for the future? Am I alone in thinking that we all want what is best for Jersey and it's people? That Jersey can continue to be an independent State without interference from the UK Government or the EU? So why not involve us all? If you the States have no personal agendas with that direction, then you have no reason not to involve us with that decision. If on the other hand (and this is what seems to be the case) the direction in which the States wants to steer us is for the benefit of themselves as individuals, then that is a completely unacceptable situation. Alas it is too late in the day to clarify this position and therefore we have to vote for change.
Right that's off my chest. Roll on tomorrow night. But tomorrow night is only the start of things to come. We may not see the perfect outcome, but that should not deter us. This is OUR Island and we will fight to keep it that way to the bitter end.
