Can anyone add to this short list of past Jersey residents who actually did a little bit of good in this island?
T.B.Davis - Howard Davis Park, Howard Davis Farm.
Jesse Boot - F.B.Feilds, F.B.Cottages (for needy families).
Billy Butlin - St.John's Sports facilities, hospital equipment.
Jack Walker - Jersey Bowl, big supporter of local sports.
I was just wondering what legacy, if any, our present crop of super rich residents will leave! I can't think of much right now can you help out?

Florence Boot also gave us Coronation Park at Millbrook and the Glass Church.
Hmmmm.......... yes....... seems like philanthropy isn't so popular these days, apart from various bequests of land to the National Trust, etc. I have noticed several cases in recent years where buildings have been left to the good of the island for specific purposes, but were then just sold off (not to mention Le Seelleur's workshop at Gas Place which hasn't - but has just been left to rot and ruin instead).
And lets not forget the current efforts to build upon that FB field at Millbrook (is that plan something she would have approved of?) and the saga of moving the dairy to the HD Farm (and surprise surprise Dandara will be redeveloping the old site at Five Oaks!).
Let's hope that Bill Gates' (Mr.Microsoft) fine example kicks off a new wave of philanthropy. After all, you can't take it with you and it really spoils the kids ( cough Paris cough Hil cough ton) if you leave it them!

. After all, you can't take it with you... "He who dies rich dies in disgrace" - Andrew Carnegie (Thought seemed better here than on the 'Quotations' thread.)

Family give coastal land to National Trust
JERSEY’S National Trust has been given over ten vergées of land by members of the Berni family, in memory of Frank and Lina Berni.
Up to six vergées of the land is situated close to L’Etacquerel Fort. An additional small wooded valley and reservoir was also given to the trust by the Berni family.
Mike Stentiford, president of the National Trust for Jersey, said that they felt deeply honoured to be charged with the duty of safeguarding the beautiful coastal area for the benefit of the Island.
‘It is truly wonderful that the altruistic spirit previously demonstrated by the likes of T B Davis and Lord and Lady Trent continues to thrive in our small Island community.
from this is jersey the berni family were the owners of berni inns remember them ?
