Mike is Chairman of the Economic Affairs Scrutiny Panel, and will be speaking on the Recession and Jersey. It was very good. Mike is extremely well informed and explains matters in an uncomplicated way - obviously his experience as a lecturer shining through.
I am becoming more and more impressed with Mike as he appears to be determined to stick by his election promises - this is the type of politician we need.
It was depressing to learn that the States are so ill-informed though and have no contingency plan in place to combat the recession. Sad as well to learn that in order to combat a depression a government either has to lower taxes to encourage more money into the system (UK lowered VAT) or raise taxes and increase government taxes - no prizes for guessing which way Jersey is going! Things will only get worse folks!

We have an incompetent government as far as I am concerned who will bend over backwards to help the rich and big business but the rest can go whistle. I expect a collapse over here before too long the way things are going. It wouldn't surprise me if those running the show left the island when this happens.

Maybe they could do some after dinner speeches to top up their income ?? Can expect anything in the region of up to £250,000 for a 90 minute speech
Tony Blair earns up to £250,000 for a 90-minute after-dinner speech while John Major can still command £30,000 for each speech.
The world's top earner is Bill Clinton who has amassed £20 million since 2001 through speaking engagements alone. He charges up to £300,000 per speech.
Mayor Boris Johnson had made between £5,000 and £10,000 a speech over the past few years.

I voted for Mike Higgins and by what you are all seem to be saying is that Mike is very good. When i have seen him on tv he comes across very well indeed. I know people were abit worried that he might side with the establishment but he has so far proved that wrong. I said the other day give Mike a few years and he may make a good CM. When one things that about 4 years ago he draw up a policy on finance and it was never taken up.If only.

I have met and spoken to Mike on several occasions. He does come over as a very honest, intelligent and sincere man . He is not a yes man,and his background and experience is vital if we are to make any progress from the current regime. Need soem other good people of his calibre in there
