What do people feel about the recently announced decision to do a review of Politicians pay?
Is it bad timing, when everyone else has to tighten their belts.?
Or is it a real opportunity for members of the public to make a genuine contribution to the review process ?

Should take a pay cut and show they have some understanding about recession.

Can anyone explain to me ,why after an extended Christmas break,States members can still be on holiday away from the Island ,for the Start of the new session ?
surely they have enough time off ,compared to average Joe public?

£1K a year is hardly going to make a big difference to most States Members - if there's a spare £52K in the States coffers there's a lot of better uses for this.
The real plot behind this is that the Ministers have long wanted to be paid more than everybody else in the States and are trying everything they can to achieve this - so beware - look at the small print of any new proposal and see what's they're really trying to do.
As for pensions - is it worth taking out a pension for a 3 or 6 year term? Surely if they want a private pension they can fund this for themselves?

Shouldn't Jeremy be doing his own posting?

Surely Nellie is speaking for herself, her own views, isn't she? Is that a problem?

Jeremy Macon has been very quiet and mum is constantly writing online. He said that the incinerator was wrong so why is he not standing alongside Wimberely? Maybe he has already sold out.

I am not speaking for Jeremy (and actually never have) - he's capable of speaking for himself.
I like blogging and he hates it. I like hearing what other people think and replying.
I thought you lot were happy to hear everyone's points of view or has this forum undergone a change since last year?

Yes Nellie, we're still happy to hear all views (reasonably expressed) - it's only the one person having a pop!
Revolution, I assume Jeremy trusts the anti-incinerator panel to achieve as much as they can while he gets on with other matters.

I am not "having a pop" Jeremy needs to do something prominent soon. That's MY point of view.
Got go CBB is on again

Nellie is very welcome to post her views as is Jeremy should he wish . I can imagine he is very busy at present ,unders mounds of paper work and other States business. This year is going to be a tough one, regardless of what some of our senior Ministers predicated earlier on this year. The recession will not wash over us,and is not going to be pleasant for many local people this year.

I have nothing against Nellie, in fact she should be the Deputy! I see that Celia is starting her fight back, he should watch out.
