Thought I'd start a thread to see if anybody could name any investigative Jersey Journalists. I have wracked my brains and can't think of any, either past or present.
If there aren't any why do you think this is? if there are some where are they? and could you post an example of their investigative work?

errr........ no. You don't get anywhere in Jersey without sucking up to The Old Boys Network, or at least being ultra-careful to respect the socio-economic hierarchy and not to upset anyone in case it makes life difficult in years to come. "Investigations" could only be about crime (and the island's too small to get away from any repercussions of stirring anything up) or government inadequacy or corruption..... same problem. The result, of course, is the kind of cover-up Jersey Way mentality, which gives the practical results that an actually organised conspiracy would. Despite how BBC presenters take the mick out of Stuart (the BBC MW transmitter failed during a States sitting and we couldn't hear the proceedings - so Matthew Price joked about it being a conspiracy!) I don't believe anyone has seriously suggested a shady "Illuminati"-esque conspiracy over here. It's just that The Jersey Way gives us the same results, effectively! It won't stop people getting the ignorant end of the stick and taking the mick out of Stuart though There are too many smug people over here, too easily minded to fit into the hierarchy, look up to their 'betters', believe the JEP hype, and close their eyes to any suggestion of a problem. It's inevitable on a small island to get the "Don't rock the boat!" syndrome, as admitted in the Howard League report (and endorsed by the ministers) : 10.5 One feature of a small scale society is the prevalence and strength of interlocking networks of relationships. In one way or another ‘everyone knows everyone’. Family relationships, work relationships, sporting or social friendships, political associations, intertwine and reinforce each other, and these interlocking relationships underlie the life experience of people in Jersey.
10.6 This is not necessarily a criticism. It can be a strength and an advantage under some circumstances. It is at any rate inevitable in this kind of community.
10.7 However the impact of these complex relationships can also have serious disadvantages. There can be an appearance of, or actual existence of, ‘cronyism’. Important decisions are made or believed to be made through “old boys networks”. Powerful interlocking networks may exclude and disempower those outside of the groups and make it hard for those outside of those networks who have genuine concerns, to raise them or make complaints in an effective way. This is likely to be particularly true of deprived, disadvantaged and powerless children.
10.8 An enlightened authority will recognise these risks and put in place independent checks and balances, and methods of redress that will mitigate these risks.
10.9 We hope the Jersey authorities do recognise these risks, and wish to minimise them. Many of our recommendations are intended to assist in this process.

Oh yea we need more investigative journalists, ones with big testicles preferably, metaphorically speaking of course lol. I did an article on this called 'Why Real Investigative Journalistic Reporting is Needed in Jersey Channel Islands' it is on one of my article Ezine pages ezinearticles.com/?Why-Real-Investigative-Journalistic-Reporting-is-Needed-in-Jersey-Channel-Islands&id=1652340Of course don't expect to get employment in the island if you want to do real investigative journalism for any local media, because they won't want you if you cannot tow the establishment line. Maybe in the future this might change? Don't hold your breath though

Don't hold your breath though Not only would conscientious reporters find work hard to come by but I'm not convinced most of the public really want to read investigative journalism articles anyway.

With education standards dropping at their current rate, I think students will be mis-spelling,"Revolution", a lot sooner than you think.

I have noticed that on a few occasions now that when someone in the States start to give their speech and it is for sure going to be against the establishment the bbc switch to 88.8. Conspiracy or not they should take care in future because people might just decide that they are doing for the establishment. If it is them having a joke, does not go down well!

Believe a lot more members of the public are attending these days ,and many people have commented what an eye-opener it is . It's up to members of the public to keep a finger on the pulse and think a lot more folk are now doing that. the days of the Gentlemansclub is over.

Now that would be brilliant if they put it out on tv live or through the internet. I listen most weeks and it can be very frustrating when nearly every member stands up a just repeats the same speech as the last speaker all agreeing with each other when they could just vote or just say i agree with the last speaker and shall vote which ever way her or she was going to vote. Save alot of time but they must be heard. When someone puts forward a really good argument against something and everybody knows that what the speaker is saying is correct and then vote against.
