This is a ridiculous test and has got NOTHING to do with a child's ability to go to grammar school or not. If this is really an example of one of the 11-plus exams, the examiners should be shot ! I used to be a teacher of very talented students in a high achieving grammar school, but I can give you this for nothing that many of them would not have been able to do some of the numeracy strings. You either see it or you don't and it's got nothing to do with good numeracy or not ! Anywhere that still has those exams, please do away with these type of questions !!! I am personally not against an exam to test ability, but a test like this one - fun as it may be for entertainment - as a test really makes my blood boil !

These are the sorts of tests that children in the 1950's and 60's had to endure to win a place at a Grammar school. I agree about the numeracy strings, was lost on me as well . They are very similar to the sort of tests that Mensa use . Think they might be skewed more for the male brain as well . Was only a bit of fun,and hopefully these sorts of tests are not used in our Education systems of today .

Bea ! You could be right !! My brain is definitely more male orientated than female - so I do agree with your post !! Maybe thats how I really managed to get to Grammar School ! (but only for ONE year - it went comprehensive soon after that !).
