If Le herrisier is not standing then I agree with revolution, in no particular order Syvret or Breckon.

I think Roy would have had a really difficult time bridging the gap as both sides are so entrenched. I don't think Alan will be so bothered about keeping everyone happy. As the media reported today, Alan is seeking transparency COM and a rethink on spending priorities. 2 good vote winners for me. Shame we have no say on CM.

I would have liked Roy to stand,as believe he has integrity and what it takes to try and unite us all. As Alan has announced his intentions to stand, I believe we have been given a credible alternative, to bridge that divide. A new broom is needed to restore faith and trust, and Alan could certainly do that.

Alan and Roy. Both are well intentioned people. Neither are egotistical. Both listen. Both are interested in the ordinary man in the street. What a refreshing change. If Alan gets voted in, I am sure he will place Roy somewhere like Minister of Health or Education. Goodness knows how those departments need new brooms to sweep clean.

I put my vote in for Syvret. Thats not to say I think he would be the best Chief Minister. Sen Syvret as CM would probably be completely unworkable. For starters there are, I think, too few other experienced plausible ministerial candidates he could work with to form an effective council of ministers. If you can't do that, it pretty unlikely anything useful would get done.
However, and it is a big however, I think it is essential we have a proper debate about the strategy, direction and government of this island. It would have been great to have that at the senatorial elections, but with so many candidates, it was simply impossible.
I hoped there would be six people in the States with the sense to realise they can help produce that debate by signing his nomination papers, even if they are clear they do not intend voting for him as CM.
It is to my mind ridiculous that the person in the assembly with the largest consistent vote of support from the public is debarred from presenting an alternative case by those who have a lesser mandate.

Too many polls!
VFC says "Could I let your readers know they can cast their vote for chief minister all day today at the town hall?" - then there's Jeremy Macon's poll at St.S tonight - and one in the square on Monday..... it's too diluted. People are losing interest.
We know it's going to be TLS in a disgustingly secret ballot. The public are out of the loop as usual.
So what?

Just to let you know - the polls are all part of the same one - some of the new candidates have got together and are running them on different days to give everyone the opportunity to vote.
Tonight at St Saviour's Parish Hall , tomorrow (either outside M&S or BHS hopefully) and then Monday in the Royal Square.
Finally all the votes will be counted altogether, so you just have to vote once at any of the venues.

Well said Mark.

LE SUEUR WILL WIN THE REAL ONE AND NOBODY WILL GIVE STUFF ABOUT THIS. IN FACT THE SUPPORTERS OF LE SUEUR WILL PROBABLY FIND IT HIGHLY AMUSING.

Wel,l Le Sueur has confirmed he is still up for the development of the Waterfront ,even in these crucial economic times. Anyone who votes for him, must be aware that they can't complain about the Waterfront or GST if he is successful. A vote for him, is a vote for more of the same !!!

The people should choose who is Chief Minister on an island wide referendum. End of.

For what it is worth I am of the opinion that our CM should be chosen via universal sufferage.
My question is when would we vote for the CM?
Under the current machinery of government we have the following: 1) An election for Senators in October. 2) An election for Connetables in October 3) A possible vote on a referendum issue in October. 4) An election for Deputies in November. 5) An island-wide election for Chief Minister in December?
As you can tell voter fatigue is a possibility by the time we come to choosing our CM. (Why stop at choosing our CM? Why not all the Council of Ministers while we are at it?)
It seems that some electoral reform is necessary, particularly a general election.

If we can't trust our politicians to choose their own leader, that just about says it all. Let them decide, but let it be an open, recorded, vote.
