In an exercise of documentation, transparency, provision and future accountability we have recorded the St Mary hustings for everybody to listen to if they so wish. We will also provide a CD to anybody in St Mary who would like one to help make up their minds. Visit votedaniel.wordpress.com/day-by-dayFeel free to comment! I think that in this day and age this should be a basic parish provision. I asked the Jersey media during the senatorials if a podcast could be made, as the JEP only skimmed over things, but unfortunately this was not set up. We just have to take it in to our own hands for now.

I wonder why people bother with hustings. What goes on in a hall of 50 to 300 people (?) seems to have little relevance to how the parish as a whole votes afterwards.
And, where I work a number of people get the JEP each day, and all of them threw the election supplement straight into the bin yesterday! Just not interested. "They're all as bad as each other and do the exact opposite of what they promise once they get in" is the general view.
If any has any suggestions of how to counter that mentality, I'd like to hear it!

Well I've been out canvassing and people DO talk about the hustings. Word gets round quick on the grapevine - which has been very good for my dad who seemed to change a lot of minds that day - helps when you have a little longer than 2 minutes. I've also met a LOT of people who keep the supplement and use this as their deciding factor. So in a country parish like St. Mary it certainly seems to be quite different.
