This is a photo of my local gas works. Makes you appreciate how gorgeous Jersey is . . . My Grandfather worked there!! and If you look closer into the picture ,you can see the cemetery where he is buried along side many other close family members :-( Also buried in there are several relatives who were killed in the Blitz and during both Wars.The area was heavily targeted during the War ,because of the docks and the Industrial areas.Took a lot of casualties. He got Chronic Emphysema through his job,and died in his early 60's as a result . Think they were the days of the old type of coal gas,and no doubt very few precautions were taken to safeguard the workers then . |
