With three candidates waving the green card this year, is this the sign of things to come? There is no doubt that they are all singing from the heart and not just electioneering, but is it going to be a vote winner?

We can only hope that those who do believe that the 'green card' is of special importance/significance would vote for all three anyway.
Other votes they might get would be perhaps through personal connections/networks - and here you would hope that these people would then go on to add the other two candidates who share similar manifestos.
But after todays dismal showing at the open door 'meet the candidates' event who seems to care about anything anyway?

The weather was awful yesterday so that will of had an impact. Hustings have seen some good turnouts so far and it's not over yet. Personally I think the green candidates will get a good result. Whether or not the results will be enough to get them in is another matter. Our poll should give us all some indication when it unlocks on Saturday.

Re the poll: But do we know what the rough make-up is of the forum users - a wide cross-section of the Jersey population, or more specific? - ie. those that are more likely to support green policies, or more politically active, or...

Whilst it is ok to use the green ideaology, all green candidates should be stating their policies on things like GST, Pensions, etc. There is a mistrust, that greens will try to bring in more taxes using the enviroment spin, without looking at reducing others. We do state our policies on the above - see our manifestos www.nickpalmer.org nickpalmer.blogspot.comActually, the pure form of environmental taxation taxes environmental "bads" such as pollution and waste and redistributes all the revenues towards environmental "goods" like insulation and efficiency and less polluting processes. In some schemes, some of the funds would be applied to investing in local businesses and to reduce the cost of basic living expenses. Environmental taxes are best when they return all the funds collected - the purpose of this is not to raise revenue for the State but simply to shift behaviour patterns so people choose the better alternatives to help their pockets

Hi Nick, Playing Devil's Advocate there You 3 guys have to make the policies about environent taxes clear to the voters at the hustings, especially St Helier. The message is not getting through to the audience. Also, watch out for Cohen lead spin against Well, I'll try but we only have 180 seconds and that limits us to virtual sound bites without much depth...
