There are a number of Channel Island blogs & websites, these days. I noticed, after registering with one particular forum, that my computer was infected by spyware. It took quite a while to rid my system of this bug. It could well have been a coincidence, but I have heard concerns about this particular site from other quarters.
I am happy to say that this forum is not the suspect.
Has anyone else experienced such an infection of their computer, and if so from where do you think it came?
(I don't advise mentioning any particular site in your response, but am happy to communicate via a private message.)

Jez, you're not the first person to express such concerns. Everyone should at least take the following basic steps to help stay safe online, no matter which sites you are visiting. 1) Get a firewall. This will alert you to when a site is attempting to connect to your computer without authorisation, and will block such connection attempts. Free firewalls are available to download from Zonealarm and Comodo. 2) Regularly check your system with a spyware/adware removal program. A couple of good free examples are Spybot and Adaware. 3) Get a virus scanner. There are a number of free examples available, Avast and Avira being two of the most popular. And of course if you don't mind spending some cash, there is a wide variety of alternatives available.

Thank you for the private messages. My concerns about a certain forum appear to be shared by others.
Thanks All Seeing Eye for the links to the firewalls. I've got avast & spybot, but lack the extra security you mention. By the way that's a very acceptable avatar you have, and in light of the subject...
You got my pride hanging out of my bed You're messin' around with my life So I bought my lead You even mess with my children And you're screamin' at my wife, baby Get off my back, if you wanna get outta here alive

Given recent comments by JTM about checking blog hits, I do wonder if tracking cookies are being used by Planet Jersey?
I would suggest always having a Spyware checking programme running in the backgound.
Also, in Internet options it is worth cleaning all the cookies out on a daily basis.

Given JTM's recent comments about checking blog hits, I wouldn't be surprised to discover they're using powers of magical divination learnt from old episodes of the Paul Daniels Show.
