The JEP are reporting that Travelodge are looking to set up in the island. www.thisisjersey.com/2008/07/22/travelodge-seek-jersey-location/"The company, which plans to open 55 new sites, says that Jersey is an ideal location because of its lack of no-frills hotels". I couldn't help but smile at the irony of the situation. The reason we lack no-frills hotels is because the States have allowed the tourism industry to wither and die, forcing low budget hotels out of business. No doubt that same Government will soon be trumpeting the Travelodge plan as evidence of the tourism industry seeing a renaissance under their control...

Not so long ago I read about a couple that had given up their flat in Sheffield and had decided lived in a Travelodge for umpteen years.
They were very happy there, and they had a plaque unveiled in their honour at the 'lodge. They pointed out that for £40 a night you get all your bills paid, a roof over your head, heating, tea, coffee and an individual packet of shortbread biscuits.
With the cost of living being what it is in Jersey, perhaps it's time to do an Alan Partridge and shack-up at the Travelodge!
